Senior Vice President, Engineering – Azure Cloud
Location:
London, United Kingdom (Hybrid – 3 days onsite)
About the Role
Microsoft’s Azure division is looking for a visionary Senior Vice President of Engineering to lead the continued evolution of our cloud platform — driving scale, performance, and innovation across global infrastructure and enterprise cloud services. This role will be based in London, leading a world-class engineering organization that designs, builds, and operates core Azure services powering millions of customers worldwide.
The SVP will be responsible for defining the next generation of Azure’s platform architecture, enabling faster delivery, increased resilience, and seamless integration across AI, data, and developer ecosystems.
Key Responsibilities
Lead global engineering teams responsible for Azure Compute, Networking, Storage, and Platform Services.
Define and execute the long-term cloud infrastructure strategy, focusing on scalability, performance, and sustainability.
Partner with Product, Security, and AI divisions to align engineering investments with strategic priorities and customer needs.
Champion architectural excellence, automation, and DevOps best practices across distributed systems and cloud-native services.
Drive a culture of innovation, technical excellence, and accountability through effective leadership and mentorship.
Collaborate with cross-functional executive teams (CPO, CTO, CFO) on roadmap planning, resource allocation, and major technology initiatives.
Represent Azure externally — contributing to thought leadership, open-source engagement, and strategic customer relationships.
Experience and Qualifications
15+ years of engineering leadership experience in large-scale cloud, SaaS, or infrastructure environments.
Proven track record leading global engineering teams of 500+ across multiple regions.
Deep technical expertise in distributed systems, Kubernetes, microservices, and multi-tenant architectures.
Demonstrated success delivering complex cloud infrastructure at enterprise scale.
Experience driving large-scale migrations, modernization initiatives, or cross-platform integrations.
Strong understanding of cost optimization, security compliance (ISO, SOC, GDPR), and data governance.
Exceptional leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (PhD preferred).
